What is Alpha?

Alpha is a series of honest and engaging group conversations centred around the big questions of life, spirituality and faith in a fun, relaxed and non-judgmental environment. Alpha is primarily designed to help people who are unfamiliar with God or the church to dip their toe in the water and learn more. At the same time, it is also a great way for committed Christians to deepen their faith and discipleship.

1) Connection. Whether it’s a group of friends gathered around a kitchen table, or a quick online catch-up, times of connecting are important. It’s no different at Alpha. All sessions start with a meal catered by our parishioners giving attendees time to connect, relax and build friendships.

2) Content. After the meal comes the content. The Alpha talks are designed to engage people from all walks of life and inspire conversation. They explore the big issues of life and faith and unpack the basics of Christian belief, addressing questions like “Who is Jesus?”, “Why and how do I pray?” and “How does God guide us?”

3) Conversation. One of the most important parts of any Alpha Experience is the chance to share thoughts and ideas on the session topic in a small group. There’s no obligation to say anything and there’s nothing you can’t say (seriously). It’s an opportunity to hear from others and contribute your own perspective in an honest, friendly and open environment.

Upcoming Course

A new Alpha experience begins on Tuesday 8th October running from 7pm – 9pm in the Xavier Centre (the parish hall located at 143 Bacchus Marsh Road, Corio). The sessions will commence with a meal. Alpha also includes a retreat day, which will be held on Saturday 23 November.
