Illness and suffering have always been among the gravest problems confronted in human life. Yet, very often, illness provokes a search for God and a return to him. Jesus came to heal us. His numerous healing miracles are signs of the spiritual healing that he offers us through the forgiveness of sins. When we are sick or coming to the end of our earthly life, the Lord Jesus comes to us through the sacraments and prayer of the Church.
In time of sickness
The Church provides several helps to those who are suffering from illness but not in danger of death. You may like to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, Holy Communion, or the Prayer for the Sick from the Roman Ritual. Fr Marcus makes regular visits to the sick and housebound on Friday mornings. If you would like to be visited, please contact the Parish Office.
In case of grave illness
Catholics who are in danger of death from sickness or old age are encouraged to seek the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. This Sacrament provides the grace of final perseverance, which enables us to face death in union with Christ. If you or your loved one is in the final stages of life, please contact the Parish Office to arrange a visit from Fr Marcus.
Emergencies
Human life is fragile and tragedy can strike at unexpected moments. Fr Marcus is available to make emergency visits to the dying at home or hospital. To contact Fr Marcus ‘out of hours’, simply call the Parish Office and press 2 when prompted.
